Common Threads Akron

Saturday evening I photographed the first Common Threads Akron which was held at Birchwood Supply Co. It is a series of events that are sponsored by the Knight Foundation and Global Ties Akron to bring people from different cultural backgrounds together to engage in conversation. This event focused on the foreign born - sharing their stories and contributions to Akron. It was an engaging evening, sometimes fun, sometimes heartbreaking but totally worthwhile.

Merhnoush Soroush
A near Eastern Landscape Archaeologist who moved her from Iran with her husband.

Bhim Dhungana
He works for the International Institute and came here in 2008 as a Bhutanese refugee.

Puspa Gajmer & his band
The owner at the Himalayan Music Academy and also a Bhutenese refugee.

Jawid Ahmadzai
He worked for the US Military as an interpreter and is from Kabul, Afghanistan.

What a beautiful evening.
