On Memorial Day a group of us decided to ride up to Cleveland and go to Noble Beast Brewing's Second Anniversary Party. Ben and I rode down and met each other at the Dog Park, we met Erin at the Ira Trailhead, and the three of us met Brad in Boston at TrailMix. We ended up running into a couple more friends by the Towpath Mounds in Tremont and they joined us for the ride as well. This was the perfect chance to test out my latest photography purchase - the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. I was curious to see how this tiny and inexpensive($200) lens would perform.
Waiting at Trailmix for Brad with some cold drinks.
I was impressed with the lens for sure. I would expect tons of color fringing in a shot like this with a cheaper lens but it was fairly controlled. The colors in general are not going to be perfect when you are used to professional lenses that cost over a grand - but for something this portable and cheap its hard to complain.

The 40mm focal length works well for the way I intend to use the lens - mostly on my Canon 6D while riding my bicycle. Its wide enough for the selfie but not so much that it has a lot of (barrel)distortion.
Stretches an jokes.
The Towpath was pretty crowded - as you would expect on a beautiful Memorial Day.
This "pancake" lens is so narrow it barely extends passed the grip of my 6D. I can fit it in my frame bag which makes it easy to access while riding and take photos like this.
The image quality is a good deal better than the plastic "nifty fifty" I usually carry with me while riding. The only drawback is not having quite as a large an aperture - but that obviously is because of the size - and since it will mostly be used outside in decent light this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
It is so great that the Towpath takes you all the way to Cleveland now - there are only a couple very short on-road sections.
That is our friends Patrick and Brad leading up there - awesome that we ran into them.
Beer selections - Noble Beast is always a favorite - made even better by some of their special anniversary beers.
Beer Bombed
It was much more crowded this year than at last year's anniversary.
Strange tandem outside the brewery - we talked to the owner for a bit. It was great to see so many bikes out on the streets as we passed through Cleveland.
Some of the great "fair-themed" food.
Ben ran into a couple more friends there.
Brad talking about something nerdy I'm sure.
On out way to the next stop.
Rising Star in Hingetown for a pick-me-up.
Locking up at Terrestrial Brewing.

We picked up some crowlers and headed over to Whisky Island. It wasn't quite as warm up by the lake as it was back in Akron.
When I run to the restroom everyone likes to play with my camera.
Old Coast Guard Station.
If you want to check out the image quality in more detail you can click through to flickr and see these images in full size.
One last stop.
Hand up not a hand out.
Climbing shoes.
New Bike Day
...and then it was two more hours back in the dark. Spending Memorial Day in the saddle was pretty perfect.
