Fog on Fog

Fog
Yesterday morning as I finished breakfast I was about to jump into some boring office work when I peaked out the door. I couldn't believe how foggy it was. I loaded a roll of the expired Fujicolor Press 400 in my Canonet QL17GIII and decided to walk across the High Level bridge and down into the Gorge - snapping the entire way. I had wanted to see what this film would look like over-exposed by a stop so I had it rated at ISO 200. I even went over the meter reading by two stops on some of the images knowing all of the fog would throw it off.

Weekend

Collide Fundraiser
Last week was a busy one - I had so many shoots that I was editing photos on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I still managed to make it out to a few good events over the weekend. Above is Greg Milo performing at a fundraiser for Collide at HiHo Brewing. Collide is a great non-profit that promotes arts in Cuyahoga Falls.

TorchBearers Anniversary

Last night the Torchbearers celebrated their 17th anniversary and I was there to document as I have been for the last 5 years. It was really cool to see two of my friends honor two other of my friends. This was a room so full of great people and friends that I really had to dfocus to do my actual job!

The Cool Camera

Cuyahoga Falls
In my last post there is a video of my teaching how to fix light seals on vintage cameras. Turns out I know what I am talking about as my Canonet QL17 GIII worked. I tested it out downtown Cuyahoga Falls over a couple of days with a roll of expired Fujicolor Press 400. The camera is designed to be shot in shutter priority mode and that is how I used it for the whole role(it does have a full manual override albeit without light metering). Even though the film is 17 years past the expiration date and I have no idea how it was stored so I still shot it at box speed. All the hallmarks of its age showed up - less contrast, color shifts, more grain etc - but hey - if I want perfect color and contrast I'll shoot my thousands of dollars worth of digital gear.

Photography Videos

Recently I've started posting a new series of photography videos. It is something I haven't done in a few years as I was mostly focusing on my travel and cycling videos. I need to get back into doing videos with audio though so I can continue to improve that aspect of my film-making. They are a split between "how to" videos and history videos. The first three are up and I am already working on the next two that will be posted this week.

Digital Analog

Photos of Photos
I've been dying to get out and shoot with the RZ67 for a while now. I have two film backs loaded with a couple of different films. My schedule just hasn't lined up with the right weather(light) yet and I've come down with a cold the last few days. Not being able to get out I set up this photo in the studio today.

International Clash Day

Boys from the County Hell
Friday was International Clash Day and Kent is one of the cities that celebrates. Ben and I decided to brave the snow and ride our bikes there for a couple of the events. We started at the Water Street Tavern to see the Boys from the County Hell do a couple Clash cover sets....and they absolutely killed it. Then we walked over to Euro Gyro - unfortunately we missed Fringe Candidate but we were in time to see Kill the Hippies. We had a blast followed by what felt like the longest bike ride home of my life....

MidWinter Blues

MidWinter Blues
On Thursday evening I was at the Akron Art Museum for their Midwinter Blues weekly event. This night Micah Kraus demonstrated screen printing and Lemon Quartet provided the tunes. It was a fun night and I saw a lot of friends. I decided to do something a little different and take photographs with my camera.

I started my day with a video shoot in the Key Tower, did some solo exploring, then joined up with Critical Mass to ride to Joy Machines Racing fundraiser at Mahall's.

Gold Sprints

Gold Sprints
On Friday afternoon I had a video shoot in the Key Tower on Public Square. After I stuck around and rode to a few destination before ending up at Mahall's 20 Lanes for a Joy Machines Racing fundraiser. There were raffles and beers but the main event was the Gold Sprints. Head to head races in a bracket-style on rollers which were hooked up to a computer and some kind of power or speed sensor to determine the winner. I had a blast hanging out and watching with some Akron & Cleveland friends - and some new friends I met that evening.
